So, I was just catching up on some blog-reading, and was looking at Sarah's lovely post on the backstory to Vern & Lettuce, with this ace cutaway illustration of Lettuce's burrow:

The illustration instantly reminded me of a book I'd loved when I was a kid, House By Mouse. I couldn't remember who had written it, or the name of the illustrator, so I had a quick google, and turned up a couple of links: this one from Bijou Kaleidoscope in 2007 and this one from We Heart Books earlier this year, both of which have some examples of the lovely illustrations by Doris Susan Smith (whoever she is).
I was intrigued by both the blogs in question, so I clicked onto their front pages. Imagine my surprise to discover that the latest post (today's) on Bijou Kaleidoscope, is about House By Mouse again. What are the chances?
I must see if I still have my copy. I'm almost certain I do — I loved it far too much as a child to get rid of it intentionally.
